The internet is a wonderful tool for looking up past lottery numbers. There are various sources that are very reputable and give you the chance to have a look at the previous and popular numbers. The first place to look is the official operator’s website of course, to see what numbers have been drawn recently. If you do this you will be able to, perhaps give yourself a system and work out what numbers are the best to play.

For example, looking at past lottery numbers will give you an idea of what numbers are popular, which are unpopular and also which number sequences tend to appear. You can also investigate which bonus balls tend to be drawn and if that particular month has popular numbers. What do we do with this information? Some people would say that you should disregard it entirely because there is not a foolproof way of choosing winning lottery numbers. Therefore are we wasting our time in trying to find a set of numbers that will definitely win? Because none of us can predict them, remember?

At the same time, if we look at the evidence we can decide what is likely to come out again. There are two ways to think about this. On one hand we can say that a popular ball is a good choice because we know the machine likes it and it likely to be picked. But what if this ball has run out of luck? What if because of probability it has been picked so many times that it’s unlikely to be chosen again? At the same time people would say that the balls that are rarely drawn are bad luck and its pointless picking them but what if this means that it is their time to shine. You can either go for the numbers that are less likely to come out or go for the ones that have been picked out a lot – which ever way you want to play it is up to you.

When looking online look for other clues – for example are you looking at the numbers for the midweek draw and the weekend draws separately? Are you looking at the machines that are doing the draws? How about the prize fund? Does it seem to make a different to the numbers drawn? We have already said the results are largely random but this doesn’t mean we can’t try to apply some other pattern to it!

Don’t forget that no system at all is foolproof. There are plenty of websites offering some so called foolproof systems but there are in fact none – there are websites that offer you a system in return for a fee but anything that offers you a so called foolproof system is not telling the truth. There are plenty of good books available that will offer some hints and tips on how to win of course and feel free to read this if you need more ideas.

1. Do not form patterns on the ticket sheet. You need to be random. So choosing all the numbers down one side of the sheet will put you at a disadvantage when playing the lottery.

2. Do not form zig-zags on the ticket sheet. Again, you need to be random. Just think of the numbers that you want to play and mark the off on the ticket sheet.

3. Do not form circles, shapes etc. Think of the most obscure and random things that are number related and use these for your lottery numbers or to give you some ideas.

4. Do not pick numbers that have already won. Choose lottery numbers carefully. You need to be random and these numbers will almost never occur again. This leaves you at a disadvantage. Try using a recommended syndicate if you have trouble choosing lottery numbers. Research syndicates first. http://www.uk-national-lottery-results-and-numbers.com

5. Do not use Birthdates. They stop you going higher than 31. This is one of those tips that you don not realise could be a problem until you see it written down in black and white.

6. Do not use repeating numbers. This is not random. Also, the system only allows you to use each number only once.

7. Do not use consecutive numbers. This is not random. How true this is. When last did you ever see consecutive numbers in a winning lottery result. Yes it could happen but it is more likely NOT to happen.

8. Do not use all even numbers. One lady contacted me and said that she could not use any other type of number. Using only even numbers will limit you when choosing lottery numbers.

9. Do not use all odd numbers. This is because you are neglecting one half of all the numbers that you could be choosing from. Not good, especially if the results showed that 2 of the winning numbers in the lottery results were even. So use both odd and even numbers.

10. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, is not random. These numbers all follow each other so they are consecutive.

11. 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 is not random either. Choose lottery numbers wisely. Although these numbers are bigger, they are still not random.

12. 7, 17, 27, 37, 47 …All of these numbers have 7 in them. It is highly unlikely that these numbers together will win you a lottery jackpot. You get the picture.

In summary, choose lottery numbers using a mix of odd and even numbers, use the full range of numbers e.g. 1 to 49 and be as random as possible.

It is impossible to predict which numbers will win any given lottery. In particular past results have no bearing on future results. Does this mean you should just use a pin to pick your lottery numbers? Many people believe so but it is a mistake.

The numbers you pick affect HOW MUCH YOU WIN if you do win. For example, so-called lucky “7″ is actually very unlucky indeed. Many people choose this number and so if it comes out, it increases the chances of the jackpot being shared. A shared jackpot is likely to be disappointing in size.

More importantly popular numbers diminish the size of the minor prizes. If you were going to get a consolation prize you would much prefer $9000 rather than $2000 for example. The numbers you choose have a big effect on your likely winnings. Rollovers are an even greater factor. They have an enormous effect on the size of jackpots.

These are complicated issues and require serious mathematical analysis to reveal the facts.

Have you wondered why some weeks a lottery payout is small? In 2007 in Florida, for example, payouts ranged from $1.4 million to $18 million. Such variations occur year on year in lotteries all over the world. $1.4 million is great but how much more life-changing is $18 million?

The same is true for the smaller payouts. One week the payout for five out of six was $2,075; another week it was $9,779. How would you feel if you got five numbers and the payout was a measly $2,075? Remember, all tickets have an equal chance of success so isn’t it crazy to buy a ticket which is effectively competing for a $1.4 million/ $2075 payout when for the same money you can be competing for a $18 million/ $9,705 payout. Get smart.

Mathematical research can reveal why some payouts are low and conversely why others are high. It requires analysis of thousands and thousands of lottery results from all over the world and it requires special techniques to identify numbers that win big prizes and numbers that damage your winnings.

Special insight can be gained by looking at draws where there are rollovers. Self-evidently there is a rollover when people have not chosen the winning numbers. Consequently these numbers are of great interest.

It is wrong to rely on statistical patterns only. Statistics are only half the story. You should only believe a statistical result if there are logical reasons to expect or explain that result. This is another vital aspect of the research I have undertaken. This allows me to conclude that there are numbers that pay out big winnings. Conversely there are “killer” numbers that damage your winnings. This leads to a system for picking numbers. The final choice is obviously yours. Your reasons for that choice might be highly personal but you should work within a structure that puts you in the big payout zone.

Nobody can tell you which numbers are going to win. If I could, I would most likely not be writing this article. I would be too busy sailing my yacht round the Caribbean. What I am sharing with you is my knowledge that there are numbers that are more likely to lead to big payouts. Once you find out about these numbers, it will change the way you play the lottery forever.

If you’re like most people, you think that the lottery numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6 have never been drawn. Not only that, they will never be drawn in the future. That’s because it’s impossible. Or is it?

Why has 1-2-3-4-5-6 never been drawn by any lottery? The simple answer is that the odds are astronomical. The odds of any sequence of numbers being drawn in a 6/49 lottery are approximately 1-in-14-million. So, those numbers have the exact same odds as any other sequence of numbers like, say, 7-12-21-30-41-49. The problem is that the first set of numbers are very memorable and the second set are not because they look like the usual sequence of numbers.

What happens is that the human mind tends to see patterns where there are none. Because the numbers 7-12-21-30-41-49 look like numbers that are usually drawn, they look normal. Yet, those numbers, probably, have never been drawn and, probably, never will, just like 1-2-3-4-5-6.

As an experiment, I’ve checked those exact same numbers against previous 6/49 results in Canada, a lottery that’s been drawing twice per week for over 25 years – That’s more than 2600 draws. You can do the same here. With both sets of numbers, the most matched was four. And, guess what? It happened with both sets of numbers the exact same number of times twice. So, if you played both sets of numbers every week for 25 years, you’d win approximately the same amount. Now, on one of those draws, the numbers drawn were 1-2-3-4-13-48; that happened on July 8, 1992. That’s pretty close to actually hitting it, don’t you think?

The point is that any set of numbers in the lottery, no matter what, have the exact same chances of winning the jackpot, no matter what the perceived patterns in your mind tell you.

Tino writes a blog about lottery winners from around the world that have won big jackpots in games such as Poerball, Mega Millions, Lotto 6/49, and Super 7.

Is it a good strategy or a bad strategy to choose your lottery numbers based on birthdays? To explain this, you must first understand two important principals with lottery numbers. First, lottery numbers are chosen at random, meaning that absolutely any combination has an equal chance of being drawn. Second, there are thousands of other players choosing lottery numbers based on birthdays.

So, the short answer is, no, choosing lottery numbers based on birthdays is not a good idea. Here’s why: although every combination has an equal chance of being drawn, if there are more people that have winning tickets, the jackpot prize will be split amongst more people. What do birthday numbers have to do with this? Simple, the are a great many people that consider the lottery to be mystical and, so, choose sentimental numbers based on birthdays of themselves or loved ones. So, the numbers one through to twelve represent months and are over-represented and the numbers one through to thirty-one represent days of the month and are also over-represented.

When a lottery draws low numbers below thirty-one, there tend to be more winners. When it draws high numbers above thirty-one, there tends to be less winners. This is almost entirely due to the fact that people choose birthday numbers. Now, a win is a win and it is highly unlikely that you will ever win in your lifetime, but choosing higher lottery numbers gives you better odds of receiving a bigger prize if, one day, you beat the odds and actually win the lottery. Whatever system you use, good luck with it and hopefully, one day, you too will claim a big lottery prize.
