Giving Lottery Tickets As Birthday Presents
Some people consider it insulting to receive lottery tickets as birthday presents. The main argument is that it is a thoughtless gift. If someone doesn’t have the willingness to buy a personalized gift, buying a lottery ticket is thoughtless and easy; it got be considered impersonal. So, they don’t like receiving them.
On the other hand, some people enjoy receiving lottery tickets as birthday presents. Just the thought of the possibility of winning a big lottery jackpot is exciting and, because of that, they don’t mind receiving an impersonal gift.
Most of us, like it or hate it, have received lotto tickets for our birthday at some point in our life. We probably have won something small, like $5 or $10. But have you ever thought of what might happen if you actually win big money from such a ticket that was purchased for you? You’d probably feel indebted to the person that bought it for you, and rightfully so. You’d probably give that person a share of your winnings. But what if that person thinks that you owe him more than you gave like, say, half of your winnings? What if you’re not willing to give so much. That would probably cause a huge strain in your friendship or, even, be the end of your friendship.
On the other hand, if you gave a friend lottery tickets for their birthday and that friend won the jackpot, would you expect something in return? How much? If you think that you might be the type to expect a kickback, perhaps you should think twice about buying lottery tickets as gifts.
Winning the lottery could help a lot of people but it could also cause problems between friends. Think about that when you give and receive lottery tickets as birthday gifts.
Tino writes about lottery winners like Max Matthews, a man that won $1 million from a lottery ticket that his son bought him for his birthday and Neal Wanless, a huge $232 million Powerball winner from South Dakota.
